It's a bit of a red herring, the CFP-12 is.

It's already obsolete. No way will they take SIX champions now. If we get down to 3 major conferences, that will effect the byes. Can you imagine UCF getting a bye?

Everyone is saying how the CFP-12 helps the SEC and Notre Dame. This maybe true, but they weren't dying under the old system either. ND could still maintain independence and the SEC was sometimes getting 2 bids.

The bigger issue is the shift in conferences and schools being left behind or seriously displaced.
